Dalia and Izzy on the Street

By Dalia and Izzy

While scrolling youtube or tiktok, you’ve probably come across clips of a man frantically running up to people and shouting ridiculous questions at them. That man is Billy Eichner. In his show Billy on the Street, Eichner shamelessly asks strangers random questions; some of these questions include “are the Care Bears Jewish?”, “are you jealous of Beyonce’s success?”, and “who’s a celebrity you hate?”. Inspired by Eichner, We decided to take to the streets of Nashville to conduct our own version of Billy on the Street. To say the least, asking strangers on Broadway random questions was an experience.

We started off at the Music City Hall of Fame and approached a young couple.

Question 1: What’s next for America?

Response: “I think we are moving towards a path of acceptance for a lot of people and a lot of different cultures, but we have a long way to go. What’s next? I also think there is a lot of contention that still needs to happen before we do that.”

Next, We found a group of 4 adults hanging out on the street
Question 2: What’s something that’s overrated?

Response 1: “Life *cackling*  and um being an adult.”

Response 2: “Gosh that’s a hard question.”

Response 3: “Bills, having a job, yes all of it.”

Wow, such great advice.

On Broadway, we talked to a large group of frat boys.

Question 3: Who is the best looking member of One Direction?

Response 1: “Uh I don’t know. Can’t answer that”

Response 2: “For sure Harry.”

The rest of the group simultaneously agreed that the answer was Harry.

From the other side of the road, We noticed a pedaling tavern that just pulled over. Everyone in the cart was wearing rainbow wigs and was obviously drunk (it was not even 3pm). We knew we needed to interview them so we sprinted to find them before they left.

Question 4: What’s something you’re embarrassed to admit you like?

Response 1: “Yea Mcdonalds.”

Response 2: “Trump”

Response 3 was not suitable for a school newspaper, but rest assured it was really funny.

We talked to an older couple taking a smoke break right outside Second Ave.

Question 5: Do you believe in climate change?

Response 1: “I believe that it is real but I don’t think what we are trying to do to fix it works. The green energy that they are trying to do like this and that. Like all the electric cars and stuff are making more waste. That’s my only beef with it, but I do believe it’s real.”

At a stoplight, we took the opportunity to ask an older couple plus their friend a question.

Question 6: If you could say anything to the president what would you say”

Response 1: *intense and uncomfortable laughing*

Response 2: “Not my president.”

Response 3: “P.O.S” He later clarified the meaning of this acronym.

Then something kind of unexpected happened. As we were crossing the street, the interviewees followed us and accused us of targeting them.

Lastly, We spotted a group of 3 boys (about 12 years old) making skateboarding and parkour videos.

Question 7: Who is your hero?

Response 1: “Uh Johnny Cents”

Response 2:  “Captain America”

Response 3: “Johnny Cents”

Who is Johnny Cents? We googled “Johnny Cents” 10 times and still have no clue. If anyone knows who Johnny Cents is please email us.
