This year BGA has welcomed many new teachers, including Dr. Kantor. At BGA, Dr. Kantor teaches Chemistry and coaches tennis. Realizing the importance of getting to know our teachers, I decided to interview Dr. Kantor for this month’s teacher spotlight.
How did you get into tennis?
When I was 8 years old, I started watching tennis with my family during the golden era of American tennis, with Serena and Venus Williams, Andre Agassi, and Pete Sampras all at the top of the sport. My parents got me a tennis racquet, and then I was hooked for life!
What was your favorite subject in high school?
My favorite subjects in high school were chemistry and French, largely because I had fantastic teachers in those subjects.
If you were to invite somebody to have dinner with, dead or alive, who would it be?
Freddie Mercury and Brian May of Queen. I would love to know how they came up with the one song (We Will Rock You) that is almost universally known all over the world.
What is your favorite holiday?
Thanksgiving. Food and family are a great mix.
Where did you go to school?
I went to college at Furman University in Greenville, SC and grad school at Vanderbilt University. Go Dins and Dores!
What is your favorite thing about science?
I like science because it is a way to understand the world that is adaptable. As we make more observations, do more experiments, and gather new data, our scientific theories can be refined to better explain the world around us. The beauty of science is that we don’t always have all the answers!
Do you have any pets?
No pets yet! But maybe soon…
What is your favorite book?
My favorite book series is Wayward Pines by Blake Crouch.
