Imagine this: darkness surrounds you like a heavy blanket. People are packed like sardines, the excitement buzzing in the air. Bam! A light shines on the stage, and the crowd roars with approval. The well-crafted set is presented like a prized pony to judges at an English riding competition. It’s a ten out of ten, if the noise was the score. Looks of anticipation spread throughout the theatre like a virus, and everyone asking: When will it start?
The Mouse that Roared was the play that was selected to be performed in BGA’s esteemed theatre this year, by the outstanding Ms. Wallace. The selected play must have the capability of supporting everyone who wishes to perform on stage. With the amount of talent within the theatre community, Ms. Wallace had to decide how to cast everyone for the best-fitting roles and consider how much time the actors were willing and able to put into the play itself.
Ms. Wallace told us that she loves the cast because they are always in a good mood. There are “no divas” as she puts it. The key to staging a remarkable play is that everyone must work together. This includes making the set, memorizing lines, blocking, and even making costumes. One Ms. Wallace’s favorite costumes was the Dutchess’s flowing gown, along with the purple feet of the wine makers.
