The team that made history did it once again! The BGA girls’ volleyball team had an incredible season this year. They went undefeated in their district, and overall, they went 25-4. They had an exciting regular season and went on to be district champs, region champs, and then, of course, state champs. As someone who went to many of their games, I could see from those first games of the season that this team had every intention to go back-to-back. Volleyball is already an incredibly exciting sport, but these girls made it exhilarating to watch. They work so well together and worked very hard for every point, set, and match. In the state final, BGA played Goodpasture at MTCS and won with a sweep. The BGA libero, Izzy Northam, won the MVP title of the state tournament. Because it was a double elimination tournament, BGA also faced Goodpasture in the semi-finals to advance to the final. They ended up winning that match 3-1 and thrilled the hundreds of BGA fans who really showed up for the girls and are well-deserving of an honorable mention for the success of the team. Overall, the volleyball team has continued to prove their talent, and we cannot wait to watch them again next year.

As we enter the winter season and the second quarter of the school year, it is important to mention the successes of our other BGA fall sports. Golf and soccer, being two of the multiple successful teams this season, had very impressive results. Bella Bugg and Elliot Brashear won state as individuals for golf, and the volleyball team won state for the second year in a row. Girls’ soccer also had a very impressive season where they went on to dominate the district, region, and state tournaments. They went on to win runner-up in the state championship! Most recently, the cross country went to compete in the state meet in Hendersonville. Laurel Phelps placed 11th individually and qualified as an all-state. Harris Cleveland also placed in the top 20. The boys’ XC team placed 4th in the state, and two girls placed top 20! Boys all-staters include Braden Millard and Jack Evans. Overall, a very exciting fall season of sports with trophies rolling into the Academy! Thank you to our fall sports and congratulations!
