Winter Sports Kickoff

By Ella McLay

As students are entering the second semester of the school year, winter sports are beginning to really kick into high gear. Winter sports are either beginning the second half of their season or getting ready to prepare for the postseason. Our BGA wrestling team is getting ready to go to the region tournament at Nashville Christian, and their main competitor is Friendship Christian. The wrestling team has had a very successful season and has beaten every team except for Friendship Christian. But with all of their weight classes now filled, the region tournament is looking very promising. Our BGA boys’ basketball team has also had a very successful and exciting season so far. Their record lies at 17-7 and has a district record of 8-3. Kavien Jones, a BGA junior on the basketball team, has been nominated for Mr. Basketball, averaging 23 points per game and 800+ career points. The girls’ basketball team is 11-9 with leading scorer Lindsey Summarell averaging 14 points per game. Entering their last week of the regular season next week, they have high hopes for a successful postseason. The cheerleading team has done a great job hyping up our student section during basketball games. Also, a highlight of the winter season so far was the BGA dance team debut, where they performed at halftime during the girls’ and boys’ basketball games. The swim team recently went to the region tournament with Benjamin Bush, Nicholas Ferrara, Greta Grier, Emery Howard, and Alexander Walker. And two of the swimmers, Ben Bush and Emery Howard, have qualified for state!
