Ah, Valentine’s Day: a day of love, a day of sweets–and a reminder of the relationships some of us do not have. We singles all know how the day goes like the back of our hands; we wake up, go to school, and see reminders of our hopeless romanticism everywhere. I know, it’s rough. However, it really doesn’t have to be…
Welcome to the BGA 2023 Single Survival Guide: A guide on how to get through Valentine’s day without a special someone! Enjoy this 3-step process to have a good time this Valentine’s Day.

Step 1: Acceptance
Yes, Valentine’s Day can be grueling, but don’t let that stop you from having the time of your life. So what if you don’t have a Valentine? Who needs one anyway?
Step 2: Make a Plan
V-Day doesn’t just have to be all about romance, nor does it have to be about love of any sort. Here are some ideas to get your Valentine’s Day booked:
Binge Some Tasteless Rom-Coms
Who doesn’t love making fun of cheesy media? Grab the remote, hop on the couch, and don’t get up until you’re satisfied you’ve found the cheesiest, most tasteless rom-com on the market.
Fill the Void with Some New Clothes
Online shopping is one of the most entertaining things to do to get your mind off things at any point in time. Indulge yourself and spend a few bucks on some nice new clothes.
Go Out with Friends
There’s nothing better than spending time with some of your closest friends, and here’s an excuse to do it! Some fun ideas are going to the mall, karaoke, the park, and random pet shops to play with animals. Whether you stay in, go out, or a combination of both, being with friends can cheer up any day, so spend some time with the people you love most!
Food-Fix
Though eating won’t solve everything, it can release happy chemicals that induce pleasure and good vibes. While cooking and baking can both be fun activities, I understand the desire to just chill out on V-day. So go out for dinner or order food to your house, and eat your favorite dishes.
Sleep
You’re home from school? Or after school? Take a nap! Sleeping can help you get through this Valentine’s Day.
Anti-Valentine’s Party
Hate Valentine’s Day and everything about it? Throw a party about it! Invite your friends and family and throw a party to express your pure hatred for V-day.
Explore
While a fun activity on almost any day, exploring new places can sound boring, but it really can actually be pretty fun. Explore the surrounding neighborhoods, the woods, the town, almost anywhere! I guarantee if you explore enough, you’ll find some pretty interesting things on your journey.
Step 3: Execute
Now that you know what you’re going to do, whether it’s active or not, go do it! Good luck everyone, and stay safe.
