Each October, Ms. Handelsman’s students participate in a festive contest creating pumpkins based on literary characters. Pumpkins this year ranged from children’s books to famous classics, with pumpkins representing characters from books such as If you Give a Mouse a Cookie to The Count of Monte Cristo. The pumpkins were voted on by selected faculty members, and both overall winners and winners for various categories were chosen. Below are the winners and photos of their pumpkin creations!
Cutest:
- Forrest Gump by Jack Charles Headrick, Henry Holt, and Kian Iverson
- Fancy Nancy by Lucy Childs, Harris Cleveland, and Blair Gipe
Most Literary:
- The Catcher in the Rye by Bella Covington and Ella Goldman
- Frankenstein by Hays Craig, Walker Kesler, and Will Locke
Most Interesting Use of Pumpkins:
- “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” by Evey Knopf, Claire Deppe, and Ellery Baisden
- Dorothy from The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by Blythe Dillard, Evangelene Gallimore, and Ella McLay
Best Use of Materials:
- Jurassic Park by Ben Bush and Tyson Tren
- Three Billy Goats Gruff by Elizabeth Cebulski, Ann Gentry Lambert, and Anna Sgarbi
