November fashion is the epitome of fall fashion. Although it is the epitome of fall fashion, November fashion is its own entity. At least here in Tennessee, September is really just an extension of summer fashion but with a little more warmth and without the white linen after labor day, so the fall months really come down to October, November, and early December. October fashion is all over the place. Depending on who you are and how old you are, October fashion consists of darker, “spookier” colors, or costumes. Some people attend costume parties every weekend of October, so a good fraction of their October fashion is costumes. The other fraction might consist of black sweaters or darker washed jeans. For the festive folk, they might wear the classic purples and oranges of Halloween. On the other side of the fall month sandwich is December. Again, depending on who you are, December might be considered entirely a winter month or only partly a winter month. Regardless of this indecision, people tend to shift to their brighter fall/winter colors. December fashion consists of a lot of (hopefully) tasteful reds, and white sweaters and maybe even an icy blue here and there. All of this is to say that November gets to live on its own island of fall. November is the month of Thanksgiving, but that holiday is not the most thematic. That is why November fashion is its own entity. In the month of November, especially in our fall-loving town of Franklin, I see all shades of browns, muted reds, and off-whites. Franklin is certainly not short of flat-brimmed hats, and ankle boots. When I think of fall fashion, I think of what people choose to wear to Thanksgiving dinner. For me personally, all fall I just tend to wear darker colors and warmer garments, but I really dive into “fall fashion” on Thanksgiving. On this day specifically, I see plaid mini skirts, white sweaters, light-ish washed jeans, black tights, and even turtlenecks. After all, Thanksgiving is a time where you eat dinner with people of all ages, so people tend to dress accordingly. November is the month to pull out all of your fall clothes, dust them off, and drink coffee more than you regularly do.
