Brain Breaks

By Elena Turcios

In every single student’s life, there comes a time when they get distracted very easily–to the point where what they are doing just becomes like a fog in their minds. A lot of us spend our afternoons in extracurriculars and it makes homework, studying for tests and quizzes, and even projects overwhelming to the point where our brains just need a break. This is where “brain breaks” come in handy.

Brain breaks are there so that you can rest your mind for a couple of minutes and then go back to whatever task you were doing. They can be as simple as taking deep breaths, standing up, getting water, and even talking to a friend for a minute or two. A lot of these are things you can easily do in class when you need one. All you have to do is really just ask. Not only can they be used in class but even at home, where they might probably be needed the most.

A lot of people think that brain breaks are a waste of time, especially parents. In reality, most people can only stay focused for about 30 minutes. These “brain breaks” allow us to focus even more on a task and most likely even get them done faster.

So if you ever need a brain break, don’t be afraid to ask a teacher or even just have them at home because they can make a difference in our focus level.
